Departments of Guatemala facts for kids
Guatemala is a country in Central America. It is split into 22 main areas called departments (or departamentos in Spanish). These departments are then divided into smaller parts called municipalities. There are 340 municipalities in total. For a long time, Guatemala also said that parts of Belize belonged to them. But in 1991, Guatemala officially recognized Belize as its own country. Even so, there are still some disagreements about the border between them.
Guatemala's Departments
Guatemala is divided into 22 departments, which are like states or provinces in other countries. Each department has its own capital city, which is usually the largest city in that area. These departments help to organize the country and make it easier to manage.
