Manuel Atanasio Girardot Díaz was a brave leader from Colombia. He was born on May 2, 1791, and sadly died on September 30, 1813. His father, Louis Girardot, was a rich merchant and miner from France. Atanasio Girardot fought alongside Simón Bolívar, a very famous leader, in many important battles. One of these was the Campaña Admirable, which means "Admirable Campaign." He died during the Battle of Bárbula while trying to place the flag of the new republic on Bárbula Hill.
