Atom Squad was an American science-fiction TV series. It was shown live five times a week on the NBC network. The show aired from July 6, 1953, to January 22, 1954. It ran Monday through Friday, from 5:00 to 5:15 PM EST. Each episode was only 15 minutes long. There were 142 black and white episodes in total.
What Was Atom Squad About?
The Atom Squad was a secret government team. Their job was to deal with dangers to US safety. These dangers often involved radiation and nuclear weapons. The show took place during the Cold War, a time of tension between countries.
The main characters were two scientists, Steve Elliot and Dave Fielding. Robert Courtleigh played Steve Elliot, and Bob Hastings played Dave Fielding. Their boss was played by Bram Nossem.
The Atom Squad's secret lab was in New York City. It looked a lot like the control room from another popular show, Captain Video. The show's opening scene showed a person in a "radiation suit." This person walked very slowly towards the camera.
Are Any Episodes Still Around?
In the past, live TV shows were often recorded. These recordings were called kinescopes. They were made so shows could be shown again, especially on the West Coast. However, no Atom Squad kinescopes are known to exist today. This means the series is considered a "lost" TV show.
The show did not seem to have a main sponsor. Also, there were no toys or special items made to go along with the series.
