Atsuhiro Iwai (岩井 厚裕, born January 31, 1967) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender, meaning his main job was to protect his team's goal.
Atsuhiro Iwai's Football Journey
Atsuhiro Iwai was born in Saitama, Japan, on January 31, 1967. After finishing his studies at Tokai University, he started his professional football career.
In 1989, Iwai joined a team called All Nippon Airways. This team later became known as Yokohama Flügels. He quickly became a key player for them, usually playing as a center back. A center back is a defender who plays in the middle of the defense.
During his time with Yokohama Flügels, the team achieved great success. They won the Emperor's Cup in 1993. This is a very important football tournament in Japan. They also won the 1994–95 Asian Cup Winners' Cup, which is a big competition for clubs in Asia.
In 1996, Iwai moved to a new team, Avispa Fukuoka. This club had just been promoted to the top Japanese league, the J1 League. He played for Avispa Fukuoka for three seasons.
Atsuhiro Iwai decided to retire from playing professional football at the end of the 1998 season. Throughout his career, he played in 230 league games and scored 2 goals.
