Atsushi Katagiri (片桐 淳至, Katagiri Atsushi, born August 1, 1983) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a forward, which means he was usually trying to score goals for his team.

Atsushi Katagiri's Early Football Journey

Atsushi Katagiri was born in Gifu, Japan, on August 1, 1983. After finishing high school, he started his professional football career. In 2002, he joined Nagoya Grampus Eight, a team in the J1 League. The J1 League is the top football league in Japan.

Starting Out in the J1 League

When he first joined Nagoya Grampus Eight, Atsushi Katagiri played a few games in his first year. However, he didn't get to play much more after that. To gain more experience, he went on loan to two different clubs in Argentina in 2004. These clubs were Rosario Central and Quilmes.

Moving to New Teams

Atsushi Katagiri returned to Nagoya Grampus Eight in 2005, but he still found it hard to get playing time. In July 2005, he moved to FC Horikoshi. This team played in the Japan Football League (JFL), which is a lower division than the J1 League. At FC Horikoshi, he played in many matches and scored goals.

Playing for His Hometown Club

In 2006, Atsushi Katagiri made a big move to his local team, FC Gifu. This was special because Gifu is where he was born. At that time, FC Gifu was in the Japanese Regional Leagues, which are even lower divisions.

Rising Through the Leagues with FC Gifu

At FC Gifu, Atsushi Katagiri became a very important player. He played regularly and scored many goals for the team. His strong performance helped FC Gifu achieve great success. The team was promoted to the JFL in 2007. Then, in 2008, they were promoted again to the J2 League. The J2 League is the second-highest professional football league in Japan.

Later Career and Retirement

In June 2009, Atsushi Katagiri moved to another J2 League club, Ventforet Kofu. He often came on as a substitute player in 2009. In 2010, he became a regular forward for the team.

Promotions and Challenges with Ventforet Kofu

Even though he didn't play much towards the end of 2010, Ventforet Kofu was promoted to the J1 League at the end of the 2010 season. This was a big achievement for the team. Atsushi Katagiri played in many games in 2011, but Ventforet Kofu was relegated back to the J2 League after just one year.

Final Years in Football

Atsushi Katagiri didn't play many matches in 2012 and left Ventforet Kofu at the end of that year. After taking a break for half a year, he joined MIO Biwako Shiga in August 2013. This team was in the JFL. He played for them until the end of the 2013 season, when he decided to retire from professional football.
