Atsushi Katagiri's Football Journey
Atsushi Katagiri was born in Gifu, Japan, on August 1, 1983. He started his football career after finishing high school.
Starting in the J.League
In 2002, Atsushi joined Nagoya Grampus Eight, a team in the top Japanese football league, called J1 League. He played his first game that year. However, he didn't get to play much in his early years.
In 2004, he went to Argentina to play for two different clubs on loan: Rosario Central and Quilmes. This was a chance for him to experience football in another country. When he came back to Nagoya Grampus in 2005, he still found it hard to get playing time.
Moving to Smaller Leagues
Later in 2005, Atsushi moved to FC Horikoshi, a team in the Japan Football League (JFL). This league is a step below the J.League. Here, he started playing more often and even scored four goals in ten matches.
In 2006, he joined his hometown club, FC Gifu, which was playing in the Japanese Regional Leagues. This was a lower division, but Atsushi became a very important player for them. He scored many goals and helped FC Gifu move up to the JFL in 2007. The team continued to do well and was promoted again to the J2 League in 2008.
Playing for Ventforet Kofu
In 2009, Atsushi moved to Ventforet Kofu, another team in the J2 League. He often came on as a substitute, helping his team from the bench. In 2010, he became a regular forward for Ventforet Kofu. That year, his team played very well and was promoted to the J1 League!
Atsushi played many games in the J1 League in 2011. However, Ventforet Kofu was relegated back to J2 after just one year. He didn't play as much in 2012, and he left the club at the end of that season.
Final Years in Football
After taking a break for half a year, Atsushi joined MIO Biwako Shiga in the JFL in August 2013. He played ten matches for them, scoring two goals. Atsushi Katagiri decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2013 season. He played a total of 202 league matches and scored 43 goals in his career.
