Augusta Mostyn facts for kids
Lady Henrietta Augusta Lloyd-Mostyn (born Nevill; June 18, 1830 – January 25, 1912) was an English woman who loved to help others. She was also a talented photographer. She played a big part in making the Welsh town of Llandudno a better place.
About Lady Mostyn
Augusta Nevill was born on June 18, 1830. Her family lived at Birling Manor in Kent, England. Her parents were William Nevill, who was the 4th Earl of Abergavenny, and Caroline Leeke. Interestingly, her sisters, Caroline Emily Nevill and Isabel Nevill, were also photographers.
On July 19, 1855, Augusta Nevill married Thomas Lloyd-Mostyn. They had two sons, Llewelyn and Harry. They lived in a grand home called Gloddaeth Hall.
Augusta Mostyn cared a lot about her community. She asked a famous architect, John Douglas, to design All Saints Church, Deganwy. This church was built to honor her parents.
She also helped create the Mostyn Art Gallery in Llandudno. This gallery was the first of its kind in the world. It was made specifically to show art created by women! Lady Mostyn gave a lot of money to start this project. This shows how much she believed in supporting women artists.
