Augusto d'Halmar facts for kids
Augusto Goemine Thomson (born April 23, 1882 – died January 27, 1950) was a famous Chilean writer. He used the pen name Augusto d’Halmar. In 1942, he won the National Prize for Literature, which is a very important award in Chile.
Early Life and Beginnings
Augusto d’Halmar was born in Santiago, Chile. His father, Auguste Goemine, was a French sailor. His mother was Manuela Thomson. He later chose the name d’Halmar to honor his Swedish great-grandfather. His other great-grandfather was Scottish.
When Augusto was only 10 years old, he became an orphan. His stepsisters then raised him. He went to the Miguel Amunátegui Liceum school. Later, he briefly attended a Seminary. However, he left the Seminary in 1896. He wanted to spend all his time writing literature.
