Early Life and Education
Autumn Knight grew up in Houston, Texas. She went to the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts there. After high school, she studied at Dillard University, earning a degree in Theatre Arts and Speech Communications. Later, she received a master's degree in Drama Therapy from New York University.
Knight also studied in London, U.K. She earned certificates in Arts Management and Marketing from Birkbeck College. She also has a certificate in Speech and Drama from the Central School of London.

How Autumn Knight Creates Art
Autumn Knight is well-known for her performance art. Her training in therapy often influences her work. She likes to explore how people interact in a room. Her performances often highlight relationships related to race, gender, and power. People describe her art as having a "funny and unexpected effect."
In 2018, Knight performed Sanity TV at the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art’s Time-Based Art Festival. She played a funny talk show host. She asked audience members to join in through questions and interviews.
Autumn Knight also worked with the famous singer Solange. She helped create a 33-minute music video for Solange's 2019 album, When I Get Home.
Awards and Recognition
Autumn Knight has received several important awards. She won the 2021–22 Nancy B. Negley Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome. This award helps artists live and work in Rome. In January 2020, Knight was part of an exhibit at Artpace called Visibilities: Intrepid Women of Artpace. This show celebrated Artpace's 25th anniversary. It featured artists who had been part of their International Artist-in-Residency program. Knight was a resident artist there in the spring of 2015. Her 2017 video called Meesh was shown in this exhibit.
In July 2020, Knight created a two-hour performance series for The Kitchen. She worked with artist Adebukola Bodunrin. Because of COVID-19, the performance was streamed live online using Twitch. The performance had three parts. It explored how different parts of a person's identity, like race and gender, affect artists and the art world. During the performance, cameras followed Knight. The live feed was sometimes interrupted with security camera footage from inside The Kitchen. She then slowly took apart parts of The Kitchen while giving speeches to the audience. A reviewer named Madeline Seidel praised Knight's performance. Seidel said Knight showed The Kitchen as a complex place. It was like a "cage" where power differences existed, but also a place for her to explore these issues.
