Avalon is a small place in Livingston County, Missouri, in the United States. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially part of a city or town.
You can find Avalon in the southern part of Livingston County. It's located on Missouri Route H. This road is about one mile east of U.S. Route 65. Avalon is also about ten miles southeast of a larger town called Chillicothe.
History of Avalon
Avalon was first planned out in 1869. When a community is "platted," it means its streets and land lots are officially mapped. The name Avalon comes from a place called Avallon in France.
A post office was opened in Avalon in 1872. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years. It stayed open until 1985.
