Avert, Missouri facts for kids
Avert is a small, undeveloped area in Stoddard County, Missouri, in the United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community," which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
What is Avert?
Avert is a place where people live, but it's not officially a city or a village. It's more like a neighborhood or a small collection of homes in the countryside. These types of communities are common in many parts of the U.S. state of Missouri.
A Brief History of Avert
Avert had a post office that opened in 1890. This means it was a recognized place where people could send and receive mail. The post office stayed open for many years, finally closing in 1945. Before it was called Avert, the area had another name: "Day." This name came from L. B. Day, who was one of the first people to settle there.
