Aves Argentinas (which means Argentine Birds in English) is a special group in Argentina. It is a non-profit organization, meaning it doesn't make money for itself. Instead, it works to protect nature and birds. This group was started in 1916. It is the oldest environmental organization in all of South America.
What Aves Argentinas Does
Aves Argentinas works hard to keep birds and their homes safe. They do many things to help nature. This includes teaching people about birds and helping to bring back birds that are disappearing.
Helping Macaws Return Home
One important project Aves Argentinas is working on is bringing back the red-and-green macaw. These colorful birds used to live in Argentina. But sadly, they disappeared from the country many years ago.
- Why they disappeared: These macaws were once common. But they faced problems like losing their homes and being hunted.
- Bringing them back: Aves Argentinas is helping to reintroduce these macaws. This means they are bringing macaws from other places back to Argentina.
- Where they live now: The first macaws were set free in 2015. They now live in the Iberá Provincial Reserve. This is a large nature area in the Corrientes Province of Argentina.
- Conservation status: Even though the red-and-green macaw is not in danger globally, it is critically endangered in Argentina. This means it is very important to help them return and thrive there.
Aves Argentinas continues to work on projects like this. They help protect many different bird species and their natural environments across Argentina.
