Avni Yıldırım (born August 5, 1991) is a professional boxer from Turkey. He is sometimes called "Mr. Robot." Avni has fought for important boxing titles. These include the WBC super-middleweight title in 2019. He also challenged for the WBA (Super), WBC, and Ring magazine super-middleweight titles in 2021.

Avni Yıldırım's Boxing Journey

Avni Yıldırım has had many exciting fights in his professional boxing career. He started with a great winning streak.

Early Fights and First Loss

Avni Yıldırım won his first 16 professional fights. This was a perfect start to his career. On October 7, 2017, he faced Chris Eubank Jr. in Germany. This fight was part of a big tournament called the World Boxing Super Series. Eubank Jr. was a highly ranked boxer. Avni was knocked down in the first round. He was then knocked out in the third round. This was his first loss as a professional boxer.

Bouncing Back from Defeat

After his first loss, Avni worked hard to get back on track. He fought Lolenga Mock on September 15, 2018. Avni won this fight by a majority decision. This means most of the judges thought he won. Mock was also a ranked super-middleweight boxer.

Challenging for a World Title

Avni Yıldırım then won five more fights in a row. This brought his record to 21 wins and only 1 loss. On February 23, 2019, he got a chance to fight for a major title. He challenged Anthony Dirrell for the vacant WBC super-middleweight title. The fight took place in Minneapolis, USA.

During the fight, Dirrell got a cut from an accidental head clash. The fight was stopped in the tenth round. Dirrell was declared the winner by a split technical decision. This means the judges scored the fight based on the rounds completed. Avni was not happy with the stoppage. He wanted to continue fighting to win the title. His team tried to get an immediate rematch. The WBC decided that the winner of Dirrell versus David Benavidez would have to fight Avni next. However, injuries and the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays.

Facing a Boxing Superstar

After a break of more than two years, Avni Yıldırım returned to the ring. On February 27, 2021, he faced Canelo Álvarez. Álvarez was a very famous and skilled champion. He held the WBC, WBA (Super), and The Ring super-middleweight titles. The fight was held in Miami, USA.

Avni was considered a big underdog in this fight. He found it very tough against Álvarez. Avni stopped fighting at the end of the third round. He had landed only a few punches compared to Álvarez. This fight showed how strong Álvarez was.

Recent Fights

Avni Yıldırım continued to fight after the Álvarez match. On July 31, 2021, he fought Jack Cullen in England. Avni lost this fight by a unanimous decision. This means all the judges scored the fight for Cullen.
