Avondale is a special old building in Parramatta, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It used to be a home but is now used as offices. This building is listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register. This means it is an important part of history and needs to be protected. It was added to the register on 2 April 1999.

A Look Back in Time

The land where Avondale stands was first sold in November 1893. The Avondale house itself was built around the year 1900. For many years, it was a private home for different families.

For a short time, Avondale was used for other purposes. In 1924, it became a private hospital. Later, in 1929, it was a private school.

In 1981, there were plans to knock down Avondale. But people wanted to save this important building. So, a special order was put in place to stop its demolition. The Heritage Council, a group that protects old buildings, stepped in. They approved a plan to fix up Avondale. The idea was to include it in a new housing development. However, this plan did not happen.

Later, in 1984, the Heritage Council approved a new use for Avondale. It was decided that the building could be used as offices. They also approved changes to the outside of the building and its fence. Avondale is still used as commercial offices today.

To make sure Avondale would always be protected, a "Permanent Conservation Order" was placed on it in 1983. This order was then moved to the State Heritage Register in 1999. This ensures its history is preserved.
