Axel Alarik Pehrsson-Bramstorp (born Axel Alarik Pehrsson; 19 August 1883 – 19 February 1954) was a Swedish politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Sweden for a few months in 1936. When he was a member of parliament, people often called him Axel Pehrsson in Bramstorp or just Bramstorp. In 1937, he officially added the name of his farm, Bramstorp, to his family name.

Early Life and Education

Axel Pehrsson grew up in a farming family in Öja, which is now part of Ystad Municipality in Skåne. His father passed away, which meant Axel could not continue his regular schooling.

However, he later took some adult education classes at a folkhögskola. This is like a community college for adults. His family owned a large farm. When he got married, he bought his own farm called Bramstorp. Later, he also took over his parents' farm and bought several others.

His Journey in Politics

Axel Pehrsson became active in local politics first. In 1918, he was elected to the Riksdag, which is Sweden's parliament. He represented the Liberal Party at that time.

He was not re-elected in 1921. Later, he joined the Agrarian Party, also known as Bondeförbundet (the "Farmers' League"). He was elected to the Riksdag again in 1929 and served there until 1949. From 1934 to 1949, he was the leader of the Agrarian Party.

Becoming Prime Minister

In the spring of 1936, the government led by Per Albin Hansson lost power. King Gustaf V then asked Axel Pehrsson to try and form a new government. It was difficult to create a government with different parties working together.

So, Pehrsson briefly led a government made up of only his party. He was Prime Minister from June 19 to September 28, 1936. Because this government was only in power during the summer, people called it "The Holiday Government." He also made himself the Minister of Agriculture.

After the elections in September, he stepped down as Prime Minister. However, he continued to be the Minister of Agriculture in the new government. This new government was a team-up between the Social Democrats and the Agrarian Party, led by Per Albin Hansson.

When World War II started in 1939, a special national government was formed. Pehrsson-Bramstorp stayed on as Minister of Agriculture in this government until the war ended in 1945.

Life After Politics

After the war, Pehrsson-Bramstorp left the government. He then took on important roles in groups that helped farmers. He remained the leader of his party and a member of parliament until 1949. He had to retire that year because he became ill.

In 1949, he received a special honor called the Order of the Seraphim. He spent the rest of his life living on his farm.
