The Ayres L. Bramble House is a historic home located in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. This house was built in 1815 and shows off the Greek Revival style. It's mostly made of wood, with weatherboarded walls.

The house has two stories. It features a grand entrance with a Neoclassical portico. This is like a fancy porch with fluted columns. These columns have special grooves, and they are in the Doric order, which is a classic Greek design. Even though it's built like a simple "I-house" (a common type of American farmhouse), it has many Greek Revival details. These include fancy decorative molding and beautiful plaster designs.

Who Was Ayres L. Bramble?

Ayres Bramble was an important person in early Cincinnati. He was a very successful hog farmer. His farm was so big that many newspapers and magazines wrote about it back then.

Cincinnati's "Porkopolis" Connection

Besides farming, Bramble also went into the business of processing meat. He opened a large facility in Plainville. This facility processed more than 36,000 animals in just one year! During Bramble's time, Cincinnati was famous as "Porkopolis." This nickname came from the city being the main center for pork packing in the United States. While some operations in the city were even bigger, Bramble's business was the largest of its kind in the rest of Hamilton County.

Why Is This House Important?

In 1982, the Ayres L. Bramble House was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a special list of places in the United States that are important to history. The house earned its spot for two main reasons. First, its architecture is historically significant. Second, it was the home of a leading citizen in the local community, Ayres L. Bramble.
