The Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) is a big public university in Baku, Azerbaijan. It specializes in engineering, which means it teaches students how to design, build, and use machines and structures.

AzTU has 9 main schools and 54 different departments. It has about 884 teachers and around 6,500 students.

History of AzTU

The story of AzTU began a long time ago. On November 14, 1920, a technical school called "Baku Polytechnicum" was closed. In its place, a new school opened, named the Baku Polytechnic Institute.

This new institute focused on training engineers. They learned about things like farming, building, electricity, money, and oil. In 1923, the school changed its name to the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute.

Later, in 1929, the school was split into three separate schools. These new schools focused on farming, economics, and oil.

However, the country needed engineers in many other areas too. So, in 1934, the school changed its name again to the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute (AZPI). It also started teaching civil engineering, which is about designing and building things like roads and bridges.

During World War II, it was hard for schools to stay open. But AZPI tried its best to keep teaching students.

In 1950, a completely new school was created. It was also called the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute (AzPI). This new school took over all the non-oil related engineering programs. This way, the original AZPI could focus only on the oil industry. (The original AZPI later became the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy).

Finally, in 1993, the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute changed its name and became what we know today: the Azerbaijan Technical University.

What Students Can Study

AzTU has many different faculties, which are like different schools or departments within the university. Each faculty focuses on a specific area of engineering or technology.

Electrical Engineering and Power Engineering

This faculty started in 1964. It teaches students about electricity and power. Students learn about how power is supplied, different electrical machines, and how to use heat and cold technology. They also get to help with scientific research.

Transport

This faculty used to be called "Mechanical." It got its current name in 2001. It focuses on everything related to transport.

Technological Machines

This faculty was created in 1986. It has five departments. Students learn about machine parts, how to lift and move heavy things, and how machines work. They also study how to measure things accurately and create engineering drawings.

Radio Engineering and Communication

When this faculty started in 1960, it was called "Electrotechnical." Later, it split into two parts: one for electrical technology and one for radio technology. This faculty teaches about radio and communication systems.

Metallurgy

This faculty began in February 1964. It has four departments and focuses on the study of metals.

Machine-building

Founded in 1982, this faculty teaches students how to build machines. It covers topics like the technology of making things, machine parts, and how machines move. It also includes physics.

AzTU International Business School

This business school was started in 2021. Its main goal is to train experts in business and management. Many students, both from Azerbaijan and other countries, study MBA and Master in Business Management programs here. Teachers from different countries help teach these programs in English, Russian, and Azerbaijani languages.

Dean's Office for International Students

This office was created in 1978. Its main purpose is to help train students from other countries who come to study at AzTU.

Automation and Computer Technology

This faculty started in 1960. It has six departments. Students learn about automating computer systems and production processes. They also study industrial electronics, radio engineering, and advanced math and physics.
