The Azusa Civic Center is a group of buildings in Azusa, California. This city is located northeast of Los Angeles. The Civic Center is where the city government works. It includes buildings like the City Hall and the fire department.

The buildings are designed in a special style called Mission/Spanish Revival. This style often features stucco walls, red tile roofs, and arches. In 2002, these important buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are recognized for their historical importance.

Building the Azusa Civic Center

Work on the Azusa Civic Center began a long time ago, in 1904. That's when the city's public library moved to this area. Later, in 1928, the two main parts of the Civic Center were finished. One part was the City Hall, and the other was a large public hall.

In 1929, a small model of the new Azusa Civic Center was shown. It was made mostly of plaster and displayed at the Los Angeles County Fair. The entire Civic Center was completed in 1945. This was when the fire department's main building was finished.

When it was all done, the Civic Center housed many important city offices. These included the Mayor's office, the Police Department, and the Public Library. All the buildings shared the same beautiful Mission/Spanish Revival style. Since 1949, the Civic Center has also been a place for fun events. These include music shows, parades, and a carnival during Azusa's yearly "Golden Days" celebration.

Why is the Azusa Civic Center Historic?

The Azusa Civic Center was officially recognized as a historic place. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 21, 2002. This list includes buildings and sites that are important to the history of the United States.
