A Bachwürfel, wrapped and ready to enjoy!

The Bachwürfel (say "Bahk-voor-fel") is a yummy chocolate candy from Austria. It was first made in 1985. This was to celebrate the 300th birthday of a famous music composer, Johann Sebastian Bach. A talented candy maker from Salzburg, Norbert Fürst, created it.

This special candy is shaped like a cube. Inside, it has three delicious layers: sweet marzipan, creamy nut-truffle, and rich coffee truffle. All of this is covered in smooth dark chocolate. The Bachwürfel was meant to be a special, limited-time treat. But people loved it so much that it became a regular item at the Fürst cafe and candy shop!

The Sweet Story of the Bachwürfel

Before Johann Sebastian Bach's big 300th anniversary, a group called the Salzburg Bach-Organisation had an idea. They asked Norbert Fürst to create a new candy. Why him? His great-grandfather, Paul Fürst, had invented the famous Mozartkugel in 1890! They hoped Norbert could make a similar special treat for Bach.

Norbert Fürst's son, Martin Fürst, shared that the anniversary was the main reason his dad made the Bachwürfel. Bach himself didn't have any special connection to Salzburg. It was simply a sweet way to honor his music!

Where to Find Bachwürfel

You can buy single Bachwürfel candies if you just want one. But they are usually sold in small boxes. These boxes often hold four of the tasty truffle cubes. Each candy is wrapped in plastic. It also has a paper band around it with a picture of composer Bach.
