A bagel dog is a tasty snack! It's basically a hot dog wrapped in a special kind of bread that tastes like a bagel. You can find them with regular-sized hot dogs or smaller ones.

Bagel dogs are a bit like other popular snacks, such as a corn dog or "pigs in a blanket". You can often buy them at places where prepared food is sold, like concession stands. You might also find them frozen in grocery stores. They are most common in big cities like New York City, Chicago, and Cincinnati.

How Bagel Dogs Are Made

Making a bagel dog usually involves a few steps. First, the hot dog is often boiled. Then, it gets wrapped in a special dough that will become the bagel-like bread.

Sometimes, people add toppings to the dough, like poppy seeds or sesame seeds. After wrapping and topping, the whole thing is baked in an oven. This cooks the dough until it's golden brown and delicious.

The History of Bagel Dogs

People have different ideas about who invented the bagel dog. Some say it was Milan R. Burger in Durham, North Carolina, back in 1980. He and his wife, Sandra T., owned a place called Temptee Bagel. They even gave their version the name "Bagel Original Dog."

However, other people had similar ideas earlier. For example, Roger Pavlow seems to have been the first to officially register the name "Bagel Dog" in 1978.

By 1987, a brand called "Bernie's East Bagel Dogs" was very popular. Their bagel dogs had 7-inch hot dogs wrapped in plain dough. You could also get them flavored with onions or sesame. These bagel dogs were sold in most supermarkets in New York at that time.
