This article is about the characters from the Star Wars movies and TV shows that are part of the official story. In 2014, Lucasfilm decided which stories were official and which were not. So, this list only includes characters from the main Skywalker Saga films, the 2008 animated TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and other stories released after April 2014.

The characters are grouped into humans and different alien species. You won't find droids here; for those, check out the list of Star Wars droid characters.

Humans

Humans are a very common and important species in the Star Wars universe. They live on many different planets across the galaxy. Humans have unique personalities and can be found in all parts of the galaxy, from busy city planets like Coruscant to desert worlds like Tatooine.

A powerful Jedi Knight who turned into the evil Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader. He was born a slave on Tatooine and was believed to be the "Chosen One" who would bring balance to the Force. He trained under Obi-Wan Kenobi and secretly married Padmé Amidala. He turned to the dark side to try and save his wife, becoming Darth Sidious's apprentice. After a big fight with Obi-Wan, he was badly hurt and had to wear a robotic suit to survive. Vader served Sidious for many years until his son, Luke, helped him turn good again. He saved Luke by defeating Sidious. Later, his Force spirit helped Rey defeat Sidious for good.

A farm boy who became a Jedi Knight. He is the son of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, Leia Organa's twin brother, and Ben Solo's uncle. He was adopted by the Lars family on Tatooine to keep him safe from the Galactic Empire. After the Empire was defeated, Luke tried to rebuild the Jedi Order. He later hid away on the planet Ahch-To after Ben turned to the dark side and hurt his other students. He reluctantly trained Rey and died helping the Resistance. His Force spirit later helped Rey defeat Darth Sidious.

She could use the Force, but didn't train as a Jedi. She helped her son, Ben, turn good again through the Force, sacrificing herself in the process.

Han tried to bring Ben back, but Ben killed him. Later, Ben felt sad about his father and eventually turned good after seeing Han's spirit in a vision.

The son of Han Solo and Leia Organa and nephew of Luke Skywalker. Luke trained him as a Jedi, but Supreme Leader Snoke tricked him into joining the dark side, becoming Kylo Ren. He led the Knights of Ren and was a high-ranking member of the First Order. He killed Snoke and became the Supreme Leader. He eventually turned good again and helped Rey defeat Darth Sidious, giving his own life to save her.

Owen Lars Phil Brown (A New Hope), Joel Edgerton (Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith and Obi-Wan Kenobi) Luke Skywalker's uncle and adoptive father. He and his wife, Beru, were killed by stormtroopers on Tatooine. In the prequel films, he is Cliegg Lars's son and Anakin Skywalker's stepbrother. He and Beru took care of Luke after his birth.

Force-Wielders

These human characters can use The Force. They are either Jedi (who use the light side) or Sith (who use the dark side). Some dark side users are former Jedi called Dark Jedi or Inquisitors who hunt Jedi for the Empire.

A Jedi Master on the Jedi High Council. She trained Caleb Dume (who became Kanan Jarrus). She gave her life during Order 66 to save her student.
Ezra Bridger Voice: Taylor Gray (Rebels and Forces of Destiny) A young con artist from Lothal who could use the Force. He joined the crew of the Ghost and trained as a Jedi under Kanan Jarrus. After freeing Lothal, he disappeared into the Unknown Regions with Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Eno Cordova Voice: Tony Amendola (Jedi: Fallen Order) A Jedi Master who survived Order 66. He was the former teacher of Cere Junda. He hid a list of Force-sensitive children in a vault, hoping it would help rebuild the Jedi Order.
Cin Drallig Nick Gillard (Revenge of the Sith)

A Jedi Master who was the head of security for the Jedi Temple. Darth Vader killed him during the attack on the temple.
Sifo-Dyas Voice: Paul Nakauchi (The Clone Wars) A Jedi Master whose identity was used by Count Dooku to secretly order the creation of the Clone army. He died in a ship crash.
Kanan Jarrus

Voice: Freddie Prinze Jr. (Rebels, The Rise of Skywalker and The Bad Batch) A Jedi who survived Order 66. He changed his name from Caleb Dume to hide. He became the Jedi Master of Ezra Bridger. Kanan later gave his life to save Hera from an Imperial prison. His voice also helped Rey in The Rise of Skywalker.

A wise Jedi Master who trained Obi-Wan Kenobi. He found Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine and wanted to train him. He was killed by Darth Maul on Naboo. Qui-Gon was the first Jedi known to become a Force spirit after death.
Cere Junda Voice: Debra Wilson (Jedi: Fallen Order) A former Jedi Knight and survivor of Order 66. She became a mentor to Cal Kestis and helped him on his mission to rebuild the Jedi Order.

A wise and skilled Jedi Master who trained Anakin and later Luke Skywalker. He fought as a Jedi General during the Clone Wars. After surviving Order 66, he hid on Tatooine and watched over Luke. He was killed by Darth Vader but continued to guide Luke as a Force spirit.
Cal Kestis Voice: Cameron Monaghan (Jedi: Fallen Order) A Jedi Padawan who survived Order 66. He went on a mission to rebuild the Jedi Order after joining the Stinger Mantis crew. He is the main character of the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Jocasta Nu Alethea McGrath (Attack of the Clones)

The Jedi librarian. She survived Order 66 but was later killed by Darth Vader.
Rey Daisy Ridley (Episodes VII–IX)

A Force-sensitive scavenger from Jakku. She was secretly Darth Sidious's granddaughter. She trained to become a Jedi under Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa. She eventually defeated her grandfather and ended the Sith Order. She is the main character of the sequel trilogy.
Mace Windu Samuel L. Jackson (Episodes I–III)
Voice: Samuel L. Jackson (The Clone Wars film and The Rise of Skywalker), Terrence Carson (The Clone Wars TV series)
A powerful Jedi Master known as one of the best lightsaber fighters. He served on the Jedi Council and as a Jedi General. He tried to arrest Chancellor Palpatine when he learned he was Darth Sidious, but Anakin Skywalker helped Sidious kill him. His voice also helped Rey in The Rise of Skywalker.
Sith and Dark Side Users
Darth Bane Voice: Mark Hamill (The Clone Wars) A Sith Lord who lived a thousand years before the Clone Wars. He created the "Rule of Two," which said there should only be two Sith at a time: a Master and an Apprentice. An illusion of him appeared to Yoda in The Clone Wars.

The Count of Serenno, a former Jedi Master, and Darth Sidious's second Sith apprentice. He led the Confederacy of Independent Systems. He trained General Grievous and Asajj Ventress. Anakin Skywalker killed him in Revenge of the Sith, and Anakin took his place as Sidious's apprentice.
Taron Malicos Voice: Liam McIntyre (Jedi: Fallen Order) A Jedi Master who survived Order 66. He became stranded on Dathomir and turned to the dark side. He tried to trick Cal Kestis into joining the dark side but was defeated.

A Senator from Naboo who secretly was the evil Sith Lord Darth Sidious. He tricked the Republic into fighting the Clone Wars and turned Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader. He destroyed the Jedi Order and turned the Republic into the Galactic Empire. He ruled the galaxy for over 20 years until Vader killed him to save Luke Skywalker. He later returned through dark side powers and created the First Order. He was finally killed by Rey.
Ren N/A The leader of the Knights of Ren before Kylo Ren. He was heavily scarred and followed the dark side. He allowed Ben Solo to join the Knights, but Ben later killed him and became the new leader.

Mandalorians

Mandalorians are humans from the planet Mandalore with strong warrior traditions. They often wear special armor and helmets made from beskar, a metal that can block blaster shots. The Mandalorians are also connected to the Darksaber, a unique black-bladed lightsaber that is a symbol of power for their people.

Din Djarin

Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) A Mandalorian bounty hunter and the main character of The Mandalorian. He was adopted by a Mandalorian group called the Children of the Watch after his parents were killed. He survived the Great Mandalorian Purge and is the adoptive father of Grogu, an alien child he protects from Imperial forces.
Captain Hark Voice: Andrew Kishino (Rebels) A Mandalorian warrior who served the Empire as part of the Imperial Super Commandos.
Rook Kast Voice: Vanessa Marshall (The Clone Wars) A Mandalorian warrior who served under Darth Maul. She helped Maul escape from Darth Sidious.
Ketsu Onyo Voice: Gina Torres (Rebels and Forces of Destiny) A Mandalorian bounty hunter and former friend of Sabine Wren. She later joined the Rebel Alliance.
Fenn Rau Voice: Kevin McKidd (Rebels) The leader of the Protectors of Concord Dawn. He eventually sided with the Rebellion and joined Clan Wren.
Koska Reeves Sasha Banks (The Mandalorian) A member of the Nite Owls, a Mandalorian group. She helped Bo-Katan find other Mandalorians who survived the purge.
Axe Woves Simon Kassianides (The Mandalorian) A Mandalorian warrior who joined Bo-Katan on her mission to find other survivors.

A famous Mandalorian bounty hunter. He is a clone of Jango Fett, who raised him as his son. After Jango's death, Boba became a bounty hunter. He found Han Solo for Jabba the Hutt. He survived falling into the Sarlacc pit. Later, he rescued Fennec Shand and reclaimed his armor. He and Shand took over Jabba's criminal empire.
Jango Fett Temuera Morrison (Attack of the Clones) A notorious Mandalorian bounty hunter. He was chosen by Count Dooku to be the genetic template for the Republic's clone army. He was also the father of Boba Fett. Mace Windu killed him in Attack of the Clones.
Kryze family
Bo-Katan Kryze Katee Sackhoff (The Mandalorian)
Voice: Katee Sackhoff (The Clone Wars and Rebels)
The leader of the Mandalorian group Nite Owls. She was the sister of Duchess Satine. She opposed Darth Maul and later led Mandalorians loyal to her. She briefly ruled Mandalore but lost the Darksaber to Moff Gideon. She later helped the Mandalorian rescue Grogu and tried to reclaim the Darksaber.
Satine Kryze Voice: Anna Graves (The Clone Wars) The Duchess of Mandalore and sister of Bo-Katan. She was a peaceful leader and a romantic interest of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Darth Maul killed her.
Korkie Kryze Voice: Whit Hertford (The Clone Wars) Nephew of Satine and Bo-Katan Kryze. He helped his family and Ahsoka Tano.
Saxon family
Gar Saxon Voice: Ray Stevenson (The Clone Wars and Rebels) A Mandalorian warrior who served Darth Maul. After the Empire took over Mandalore, he became Imperial Viceroy. Sabine Wren and Ursa Wren killed him.
Tiber Saxon Voice: Tobias Menzies (Rebels) Governor of Mandalore and brother of Gar Saxon. He used a powerful weapon designed by Sabine Wren, but Sabine destroyed it, killing him.
Vizla family
Paz Vizsla Voice: Jon Favreau (The Mandalorian) A strong Mandalorian warrior and member of the Tribe. He helped the Mandalorian rescue Grogu from Moff Gideon.
Pre Vizsla Voice: Jon Favreau (The Clone Wars) A Mandalorian warrior and leader of the Death Watch during the Clone Wars. He wanted to bring back Mandalore's warrior ways. He allied with Darth Maul, but Maul later killed him and took over Mandalore.
Wren family
Alrich Wren Voice: Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Rebels) A Mandalorian artist, husband of Ursa Wren, and father of Sabine and Tristan Wren. He was captured by Gar Saxon but rescued by his family.
Sabine Wren Voice: Tiya Sircar (Rebels and Forces of Destiny) A sixteen-year-old Mandalorian artist, Imperial Academy dropout, and weapons expert for the Ghost crew.
Tristan Wren Voice: Ritesh Rajan (Rebels and Forces of Destiny) A Mandalorian warrior and Sabine Wren's brother. He was forced to join the Imperial Super Commandos. He later sided with his family and the Rebels in the Mandalorian Civil War.
Ursa Wren Voice: Sharmila Devar (The Clone Wars and Rebels) Countess of Clan Wren and mother of Sabine Wren. She participated in the Siege of Mandalore. She initially sided with the Empire but later joined her daughter and the Rebels, eventually killing Gar Saxon.

Galactic Republic

The Galactic Republic was a democratic government that ruled most of the galaxy for thousands of years. With the help of the Jedi Order, it kept peace. However, it became corrupt, leading many planets to leave and form the Confederacy of Independent Systems. This started the Clone Wars. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine secretly caused the war to turn the Republic into the Galactic Empire. The Republic is the main good side in the prequel trilogy.

Lux Bonteri Voice: Jason Spisak (The Clone Wars) The son of Separatist senator Mina Bonteri. He was a freedom fighter during the Clone Wars and a friend of Ahsoka Tano.
Captain Colton Jeremy Bulloch (Revenge of the Sith) The pilot of the Tantive III in Revenge of the Sith.
Tan Divo Voice: Tom Kenny (The Clone Wars) A police inspector on Coruscant during the Clone Wars.
Silman Voice: Brian George (The Clone Wars) A personal aide to Chancellor Valorum. He was captured by the Pykes and later found by Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. Count Dooku killed him before he could share what he knew.
Finis Valorum Terence Stamp (The Phantom Menace)

The Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. He was removed from office in The Phantom Menace, which allowed Palpatine to rise to power.

Clone Troopers

Clone troopers were the soldiers of the Galactic Republic's army during the Clone Wars. They were created from Jango Fett's DNA and were trained to obey orders without question. They had special chips in their minds that made them turn against their Jedi Generals during Order 66.

Commander "Bly" (CC-5052) Voice: Dee Bradley Baker (The Clone Wars) A Clone Commander who served under Jedi General Aayla Secura. He and his men were forced to kill Secura when Order 66 was given.
"Boil" Voice: Dee Bradley Baker (The Clone Wars) A clone trooper in the 212th Attack Battalion. He was a skilled scout.
Commander "Cody" (CC-2224) Temuera Morrison (Revenge of the Sith)
Voice: Dee Bradley Baker (The Clone Wars)
A Clone Commander who served under Obi-Wan Kenobi. He was forced to try and kill Obi-Wan when Order 66 was given.
"Cutup" (CT-4040) Voice: Dee Bradley Baker (The Clone Wars) A clone trooper and member of Domino Squad. He was killed by a Rishi eel.
"Droidbait" (CT-00-2010) Voice: Dee Bradley Baker (The Clone Wars) A clone trooper and member of Domino Squad. He was killed by Commando Droids.
Commander "Fil" Voice: Dee Bradley Baker (The Clone Wars) A Clone Commander who served under Jedi Nadhar Vebb. He was killed fighting General Grievous's pet.
Commander "Fox" (CT-1010) Voice: Dee Bradley Baker (The Clone Wars) A Clone Commander in charge of the Coruscant Guard. Darth Vader later killed him.
Commander "Gree" (CC-1004) Voice: Temuera Morrison (Revenge of the Sith), Dee Bradley Baker (The Clone Wars) A Clone Commander who served under Jedi Luminara Unduli. He tried to kill Yoda when Order 66 was given, but Yoda quickly killed him.
Captain "Gregor" (CC-5576-39) Voice: Dee Bradley Baker (The Clone Wars and Rebels) A Clone Commando who was thought to have died but later reappeared with fellow retired clones Rex and Wolffe. He helped the Rebels and was fatally wounded during a battle.
Commander "Grey" (CC-10/994) Voice: Dee Bradley Baker (The Bad Batch) A Clone Commander who served Jedi Depa Billaba. He was forced to kill Billaba during Order 66 but later regained his free will and sacrificed himself to help her student escape.
"Hevy" (CT-782) Voice: Dee Bradley Baker (The Clone Wars) A clone trooper and commander of Domino Squad. He sacrificed himself to destroy a Separatist outpost.
Commander "Jet" (CC-1993) Voice: Dee Bradley Baker (The Clone Wars) A Clone Commander who served under Jedi Ki-Adi-Mundi.
Captain "Keeli" Voice: Dee Bradley Baker (The Clone Wars) A Clone Captain who served under Jedi Ima-Gun Di. He was killed fighting Separatist forces.

Confederacy of Independent Systems

The Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS) was a group of planets and systems that left the Galactic Republic because they were unhappy with its corruption. Count Dooku formed it under the orders of Darth Sidious. It was the main bad side in the prequel trilogy. The CIS fought the Republic in the Clone Wars using an army of battle droids. Once Sidious had achieved his goals, he had his new apprentice, Darth Vader, kill the Separatist leaders.

The First Galactic Empire was a powerful government created by Emperor Palpatine after the Clone Wars. It replaced the Galactic Republic and was the main bad side in the original trilogy. First Order

The First Order was a powerful government that took over after the Galactic Empire fell. It was formed from the Empire's leftover forces. Its main goal was to defeat the New Republic and destroy the Resistance and Luke Skywalker. It is the main bad side in the sequel trilogy. The First Order used stormtroopers as its main army, many of whom were children taken from their homes and trained to serve.
