Baily Farm is a historic farm with an old house and barn located in West Bradford Township, Pennsylvania. It's a special place because it shows us what buildings looked like a long time ago. The house was built around 1795. The barn is even older, possibly from the 1700s.

Discovering Baily Farm's History

Baily Farm is important because it has been kept in good condition for over 200 years. It helps us learn about how people lived and built things in the past. The farm covers about 7.2 acres.

The Historic House

The house at Baily Farm is made of stone and covered with stucco, which is a type of plaster. It has two stories and five sections across the front. It was built in a style called "vernacular Federal". This means it's a simpler, local version of the popular Federal style from that time.

The house has a "gable roof," which is a common roof shape that slopes down on two sides. There are chimneys at the ends of the roof. Imagine a classic house shape, and that's probably what it looks like!

The Old Barn

Next to the house is a large barn. This barn is made of wood, but it sits on a strong stone foundation. It's called a "bank barn" because it's often built into the side of a hill. This design allows you to enter the barn on different levels from the ground.

Bank barns were very useful for farmers. They could load hay into the upper level from one side and access animals or equipment on the lower level from the other. This barn is believed to be even older than the house, dating back to the 18th century.

Why Baily Farm is Important

Baily Farm is recognized as a significant historical site. In 1985, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is an official list kept by the United States government. It includes buildings, sites, and objects that are important in American history, architecture, archaeology, engineering, or culture. Being on this list helps protect the farm and makes sure its history is remembered.
