Bairbre Dowling was born in Dublin, Ireland. Her father, Vincent Dowling, was an actor. Her mother, Brenda Doyle, was also an actress. Bairbre had three sisters: Louise, Valerie, and Rachael. She also had a half-brother named Cian. Later, it was revealed that Irish politician Richard Boyd Barrett was also her half-brother.
Acting Career
On Stage
In 1970, Bairbre Dowling joined the Abbey Theatre company. She performed in plays like The Becauseway and Rites. In 1977, she worked with her father at the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival. This festival was held in Cleveland, Ohio.
She acted alongside her husband, Colm Meaney, in the play And a Nightingale Sang in 1985. Bairbre also appeared on Broadway, which is a famous theater district in New York City. There, she performed in the play Da. In 2011, she was in a play called Temporal Powers.
Bairbre often worked at the Miniature Theatre of Chester in Massachusetts. She frequently collaborated with her father there. In 1993, she starred in a one-woman show. This show was about the life of actress and writer Fanny Kemble.
