The Bairoil City Hall is a very special building in Bairoil, Wyoming. It's the only building left from the town's early days that is still in its original spot. This makes it a unique piece of history!

Bairoil started as a "company town." This means a company, the Bair Oil Company, built the whole town. They built it to house workers for the oil fields nearby.

What is a City Hall?

A city hall is like the main office for a town or city. It's where the local government works. Important decisions about the town are made here. People can also go there for things like getting permits.

The History of Bairoil City Hall

This building has had many different jobs over the years. First, it was a dormitory. This means it was a place where workers could sleep. Later, it became an office building. It also served as a general municipal building. A municipal building is one used for local government services.

For a long time, the Bair Oil Company owned the town. Later, another big company called Amoco took over. In 1978, Amoco decided to sell off the town. This process is called "divesting." It means they sold their ownership of the town.

Becoming the Town Hall

After Amoco sold the town, Bairoil officially became its own town. This happened in 1980. When Bairoil became an official town, this historic building became its city hall. It has been serving the community ever since.

Recognized as a Historic Place

The Bairoil City Hall is so important that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This happened on November 30, 2015.
