Bakaara Market facts for kids
The Bakaaraha Market (which means Bakaara Market in Somali) is a very big outdoor market in Mogadishu, Somalia. It's the largest market in the whole country! The name Bakaaraha comes from a Somali word for a place where grain is stored, like a silo.
This market started in late 1972. People there sell everyday items like corn, beans, peanuts, rice, and even fuel and medicine.
It's also known for some unofficial activities, like making fake passports or other documents. This part of the market is sometimes called Cabdalle Shideeye.

For a long time, the security checkpoints for the market were controlled by Mohamed Qanyare Afrah. He was a local leader who later became the Minister of National Security. These checkpoints were removed in June 2005. This was part of a special effort to reduce small weapons in the area.
