Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Bakerton is a small place in Clay County, Tennessee, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government, like a mayor or city council. Instead, the county government helps manage things for the people living there.

What is Bakerton's History?

Bakerton got its start a long time ago. In 1904, a post office was opened there. A post office is a place where people can send and receive letters and packages. It was a very important building back then because it helped people stay connected.

The person in charge of this post office was named John Baker. He was the "postmaster." It's believed that the community was named "Bakerton" after him. However, the post office didn't stay open for very long. It closed just three years later, in 1907.
