Baldwin III of Flanders, also known as The Young, was a French nobleman. He was the fourth count of Flanders for a short time, ruling alongside his father, Arnulf I.
Early Life and Rule
Baldwin III was born around the year 940. His father was Arnulf I, Count of Flanders, and his mother was Adele of Vermandois. In 958, Baldwin became a co-ruler of Flanders with his father.
During his time as co-ruler, Baldwin helped Flanders grow. He was important in starting the wool manufacturing industry in the city of Ghent. He also helped set up markets in other towns across Flanders, which was good for trade and the economy.
Sadly, Baldwin III died on January 1, 962, from smallpox. He was buried at the Abbey of Saint Bertin. After Baldwin's death, his father Arnulf I made sure that King Lothair of France would look after Baldwin's young son, Arnulf II. This was to ensure a smooth future for the county.

Before 961, Baldwin married Mathilde of Saxony. She was the daughter of Hermann Billung, who was the Duke of Saxony.
Baldwin and Mathilde had one son:
- Arnulf II, Count of Flanders (born around 960 – died 987). He later became the Count of Flanders after his grandfather, Arnulf I.
