The Bali Bombings Memorial is a special place in central London, England. It was built to remember the people who lost their lives in the bombings that happened in Bali, Indonesia, in 2002.

The memorial was designed by Gary Breeze. The detailed carving work was done by both Gary Breeze and Martin Cook. It was officially opened on 12 October 2006. This date was exactly four years after the bombings. Prince Charles (who is now King Charles III) and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall attended the opening. Many family members and friends of the 28 British people who died were also there.

What is the Bali Bombings Memorial?

This memorial remembers victims from many different countries. The names of those from Britain are listed in the middle of a special stone wall. This wall is made from Portland stone.

Next to the wall, there is a large granite globe. Carved onto its surface are 202 doves. Martin Cook, one of the designers, explained what these doves mean. He said that each of the 202 doves is unique. This shows that every life lost was special and different. The doves also stand for peace. The globe itself shows that the victims came from all over the world. It also reminds us that terrorism can affect anyone, no matter where they are from.

Where is the Memorial Located?

The memorial is found at Clive Steps in London. It is very close to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office building. This building is where the British government handles its relationships with other countries. The memorial faces St James's Park, which is a beautiful park in London.

The group representing the victims' families asked for the memorial to be near the Foreign Office. This was to remind the British government about the importance of keeping people safe and informed about potential dangers. The government also helped pay for the memorial, giving £100,000 towards its cost.

How Was the Memorial Created?

The creation of the memorial was helped by a group called Memorials by Artists. This group is part of a charity called the Lettering and Commemorative Arts Trust. They help create special artworks that remember important events and people.
