The Baltimore Times is a free newspaper that comes out every week. It started in 1986. This newspaper shares stories about the African-American community in Baltimore County, Maryland. About 32,000 copies are given out each week. Its main saying is "positive stories about positive people."

Discovering The Baltimore Times

The Baltimore Times was started in November 1986. Joy and Peter Bramble began the newspaper from their home in Baltimore. They wanted to share good news and positive stories. This was to balance out negative news about the African American community.

In 2017, Joy Bramble said that the Baltimore Times still only publishes positive stories. This was true for its sister paper, the Annapolis Times, too. In 2019, Joy Bramble talked about how the newspaper was growing. She mentioned its website and social media. She said they were becoming a "media company." They plan to add videos, a radio station, and podcasts. This is to reach new, younger readers online.

Helping the Community

The newspaper company also started offering workshops and seminars. These events help people learn about business, education, healthcare, and money. A reporter named Eunice Moseley said it was the first company in Baltimore to offer free community events. These included a Housing Expo, Health Expo, Men's Expo, and Women's Expo.

Honoring Positive People

In 1992, the newspaper created the Positive People Awards. These awards celebrate important leaders in Baltimore. They recognize people who make a positive difference.

Times Community Services

In 1998, a special group called Times Community Services was formed. This group is a non-profit organization. It focuses on helping the community through good deeds and charity.

How Many Papers Are Printed?

The Baltimore Times first started as a monthly newspaper. But it became so popular that it changed to a weekly paper after just one month. Because of its success, the Brambles started more newspapers. These new papers focused on Black communities in other parts of Maryland. They included The Annapolis Times, The Shore Times, The Prince George's County Times, and The Baltimore County Times.

The newspaper is printed every Friday. In 2020, it was estimated that about 32,000 copies of the Baltimore Times were printed each week.

Special Recognition

In 2019, the publisher, Joy Bramble, received a special honor. A wax figure of her was placed in the National Great Blacks In Wax Museum in Baltimore. Before the unveiling, she also received a special announcement from the Maryland House and Senate.
