History of the Church in Bandera

In 1911, Bandera became a very important community. The Catholic people living there wanted to have their own parish church. A parish is like a local church area with its own priest.

The Archbishop of Santiago del Estero, Juan Yaniz y Paz, helped make this happen. He chose Priest Paul F. Blasco to lead the new church section. Priest Blasco went to Bandera and asked the local leaders to help form a group. This group would work to build a church and a provincial school.

This group met on September 12, 1912. They decided together that San Isidro Labrador would be the patron saint of the community. A patron saint is a special saint who is believed to protect a place or group of people.
