A Landmark in Austin's Skyline
When it was built in 1975, the Bank of America Center became the tallest building in Austin. It held this title for nine years, until 1984. Before it was built, the Chase Bank Tower was the tallest. The Bank of America Center was also only the second building in Austin to be taller than the famous Texas State Capitol. This shows how important it was for Austin's growing skyline.
Unique Building Materials
The outside of the Bank of America Center looks special because of the materials used. Its walls were built using leftover materials. These materials came from another famous building project, the Pennzoil Place in Houston. This means the Bank of America Center shares a small piece of its history with a building in another major Texas city.
