Baradene College of the Sacred Heart is a Catholic high school for girls. It is located in Remuera, Auckland, New Zealand. Girls from 11 to 18 years old attend, covering Year 7 to Year 13.
The school follows the ideas of Madeleine Sophie Barat. She was the person who started the Society of the Sacred Heart. Baradene College opened in 1909. It celebrated its 100th birthday in 2009.
Students at Baradene College take part in many school events. These include House Parades, swimming sports, athletics day, and house singing. They earn points for their school houses during these events.
Each year, students attend special church services. There is a service to welcome the new school year. There are also services for each year group. A special farewell service is held for the older students.
Every year, the school chooses one of five special goals to focus on. These goals help students grow and learn. The goals are:
- Being aware of social issues and taking action.
- Having faith that is important in today's world.
- Having a deep respect for learning and knowledge.
- Building a strong community based on Christian values.
- Growing as a person in a place that offers wise freedom.
Some of the school's old buildings are very important. Mitchelson House, the original building, and the former stables are listed as Category 2 Historic Places. This means they are protected by Heritage New Zealand because of their history.
Joining Baradene College
Baradene College is a 'state-integrated' school. This means it is a Catholic school that also gets some funding from the government. Because of this, students who live in New Zealand pay compulsory attendance dues. The school also asks for voluntary donations.
For the 2025 school year, the attendance dues are $532 per year for students in Year 7 and 8. For students in Year 9 and above, it is $1,080 per year. The school also asks for a donation of $4,940 per year for Year 7 and 8 students. For Year 9 and older students, the requested donation is $5,001 per year.
As of August 2025, Baradene College has about 1,200 students. Around 10% of these students identify as Māori.
The school also uses an Equity Index. This system helps understand the different challenges students might face in their learning. Baradene College's Equity Index shows that its students face very few challenges related to their background.
School Houses
Baradene College has six different houses. Students are placed into one of these houses. The houses are:
- Amiens (Red)
- Barat (White)
- Erskine (Yellow)
- Loreto (Green)
- Philippine (Purple)
- Stuart (Blue)
Students attend a House Mass in the school chapel once a year. The houses also compete against each other. They earn points in events like House Parades, sports days, and House Singing. Students also earn points for their house through academic awards. At the end of the school year, the house with the most points wins the House Cup.
