Barbara Jane Bennett (born August 13, 1906 – died August 8, 1958) was an American actress and dancer. She performed on both stage and in movies.
Family Life
Barbara Bennett was born in Palisades Park, New Jersey. She was the second of three daughters. Her father, Richard Bennett, was a famous actor. Her mother, Adrienne Morrison, was also an actress.
Barbara's two sisters, Constance and Joan, also became very successful movie stars. Their grandfather, Lewis Morrison, was a stage actor too. The Bennett sisters went to the Chapin School with actress Jane Wyatt.
Personal Life
Barbara Bennett was married three times and had five children. On January 28, 1929, she married Morton Downey, a popular singer. They had four biological children, including their son Morton Downey Jr.. They also adopted a fifth child named Michael. Barbara and Morton divorced in June 1941.
Later, Barbara married actor Addison Randall. He was known for playing romantic roles and singing cowboys in movies. Sadly, Addison Randall died on July 16, 1945. He passed away after falling from a horse while filming a movie.
In 1954, Barbara married Laurent Suprenant. They moved to Montreal, Canada, in 1957. They stayed together until Barbara's death the next year.
Barbara also worked as a literary representative. She helped her sister Joan's husband, producer Walter Wanger. Her job was to find popular books that could be made into movies. She especially looked for stories that would be good for her sister Joan to star in.

Later Life and Passing
Barbara Bennett passed away on August 8, 1958, in Montreal, Canada. She was almost 52 years old. Media reports at the time said she died after a long illness.
She was buried at Burtonville Union Cemetery in Lacolle, Quebec. A memorial service was also held for her in Beverly Hills, California.
