Barbertown is a small place in New Jersey, a state in the United States. It's not a city or a town with its own government. Instead, it's an "unincorporated community." This means it's part of a larger area called Kingwood Township in Hunterdon County.
History of Barbertown
Early Days in Barbertown
Barbertown got its start thanks to a man named Isaac Barber. In 1823, he opened a tavern there. A tavern was like an inn or a pub where people could eat, drink, and stay overnight. The sign for his tavern had a picture of a new moon.
Life in the Late 1800s
By the year 1881, Barbertown was a small but active community. Records from that time show it had a blacksmith shop. This is where people would go to get metal items made or repaired. There were also two stores where people could buy supplies. The community had six homes and about 90 people living there.
