Barclay is a famous French record label. It was started in 1953 by Eddie Barclay. Today, it is part of the Universal Music Group.
Who Started Barclay?
Eddie Barclay was a very talented musician. He was a bandleader, a pianist, and a music producer. He also owned popular nightclubs.
With his wife, Nicole, who was a singer, he decided to create his own record company. They wanted to help other musicians share their music.
Barclay quickly became known for releasing great music. Early artists included jazz legends like Stéphane Grappelli and Lionel Hampton.
In 1978, Eddie Barclay sold part of his company to Polygram Records. By 1983, the label stopped releasing new jazz music.
