Barstow is a small, unincorporated community located in Rock Island County, Illinois, United States. An unincorporated community is a place where people live that doesn't have its own official local government like a city or town. Barstow is situated to the east of the towns of East Moline and Silvis.
Barstow is especially known for its important connections in the railroad system. It sits on a special type of track formation called a "wye." A wye is shaped like the letter 'Y' and allows trains to switch tracks or even turn around. This wye connects tracks owned by the BNSF Railway, including a line called the Barstow Subdivision. These tracks were once owned by a different company, the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad (CB&Q), and there used to be a train station right within the wye.

Community Plans
In the past, there were plans to build some large projects near Barstow. One idea was to build a big hog processing plant. Another plan was to construct a Nascar race track. However, both of these ideas faced strong opposition from local residents. Because of this opposition, the plans for both the hog plant and the race track were eventually stopped.
