Bartolomé Pérez facts for kids
Bartolomé Pérez de la Dehesa (1634 – 16 January 1693) was a talented Spanish painter. He lived during the Baroque period, a time when art was very dramatic and full of movement.
Bartolomé was born in Madrid, Spain. He learned how to paint from his father-in-law, Juan de Arellano, who was also a famous artist. Bartolomé became well-known for his beautiful paintings of flowers and still life scenes. These types of paintings are called bodegones in Spanish.
Life of a Royal Painter
Bartolomé Pérez was not just a painter of flowers. He also created amazing backgrounds and scenery for plays. These plays were performed at the theater of Buen Retiro. Because of his great skill, he was named a painter for the King in January 1689. This was a special honor, even though he didn't get a salary for it.
Sadly, Bartolomé Pérez died in 1693. He had an accident while painting a ceiling in the palace of Monteleon. He fell from the scaffold he was using. He was buried in the church of San Ildefonso.
