History of Barton
Barton got its name from a settler named E. H. Burghardt. He named it after his hometown, Barton, Wisconsin.
Early Businesses
E. H. Burghardt was an important person in Barton's early days. He started a flour mill. This mill helped local farmers turn their grain into flour. He also opened a store, which was a central place for people to buy supplies. These businesses were located near the mouth of Deep Creek.
Barton Post Office
Later, E. H. Burghardt became the postmaster for the Barton post office. This post office served the community for many years. It operated from 1896 until 1935. A post office was very important for sending and receiving mail in those times.
