Where is Bassfield Located?
Bassfield is in the southeastern part of Jefferson Davis County. You can find its exact spot using coordinates: 31°29′50″N 89°44′46″W / 31.49722°N 89.74611°W.
Two main roads pass through or near Bassfield. Mississippi Highway 42 goes through the town. It leads northwest about 11 miles to Prentiss, which is the county seat. It also goes southeast about 14 miles to Sumrall. Mississippi Highway 35 runs along the west side of Bassfield. It goes north about 21 miles to Mount Olive and south about 19 miles to Columbia.
The United States Census Bureau says that Bassfield covers a total area of about 2.8 square kilometers (1.0 square mile). All of this area is land.
What Happened in 2020?
On April 12, 2020, a very strong tornado hit Bassfield. This tornado was an EF4, which means it caused a lot of damage. It was part of a larger group of tornadoes that happened that day. Just 35 minutes later, another strong tornado (an EF3) passed very close to the town, but it did not hit Bassfield directly.
