The Battle of Santa Ana was an important fight that happened in 1816. It was part of a bigger conflict called the Portuguese conquest of the Banda Oriental. This battle took place in a region known today as Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil.
The battle involved two main groups. One side was the Luso-Brazilian forces, led by Alexandre Queirós. "Luso-Brazilian" means they were from Portugal and Brazil, which were united at that time. The other side was the Federal League, led by General Sotelo. This group was fighting for independence in the region.

In the end, the Luso-Brazilian forces were defeated. This meant the Federal League won the Battle of Santa Ana. The Luso-Brazilian side lost about 60 soldiers during the battle. The number of soldiers lost by the Federal League is not known.
