What is the Bayfront Convention Center?

The Bayfront Convention Center is a huge complex designed for many kinds of events. It has a very large room called the Great Hall. This hall is about 28,800 square feet, which is big enough for 4,500 people! There is also a beautiful Grand Ballroom, which is 13,500 square feet. Two hotels, a Sheraton and a Courtyard by Marriott, are connected to the center.

When Did the Center Open?

The Bayfront Convention Center first opened its doors to the public on August 3, 2007. They held an "open house" so everyone could come and see the new building. Local people were also invited to take tours during the annual Celebrate Erie festival, which happened from August 17 to 19, 2007. The hotel connected to the center opened a bit later, on April 10, 2008.

Who Built the Convention Center?

The construction of this impressive building was managed by a company called Barton Malow. They did such a great job that the project won a special prize! In 2008, it received the Build America Award from the Associated General Contractors of America. This award shows that it was a very well-built and important project.
