Bean was once a small place in Kings County, California. It was known as a "settlement," which means it was a community where people lived or worked. Today, Bean is no longer a populated area, so it's called a "former settlement."

What Was Bean?

Bean was a small community that used to exist in Kings County, California. It was located right next to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. This railroad was very important for travel and moving goods across the country.

Where Was Bean Located?

This former settlement was about 3.25 miles (5.2 kilometers) north-northwest of a town called Corcoran. It was situated at an elevation of 210 feet (64 meters) above sea level. Bean could still be found on maps as late as 1928.

Why Do Settlements Disappear?

Sometimes, small communities like Bean no longer appear on maps or have people living there. This can happen for many reasons. For example, a railroad might change its route, or people might move to bigger towns for jobs or better services. When a place is no longer active, it becomes a "former settlement."
