Park History
Who Created the Park?
A long time ago, a man named General William Jackson Palmer helped create many parks in Colorado Springs. He gave away a lot of land, about 1,270 acres in total!
Bear Creek Cañon Park was one of the special places he helped set aside. He also helped create other well-known parks like Monument Valley Park, North Cheyenne Cañon Park, and Palmer Park.
Old Trails to Pikes Peak
Back in 1873, there was only one main path to the Pikes Peak Signal Station. This station was a lookout point on top of Pikes Peak.
The trail started in Manitou Springs and went right through Bear Creek Cañon. It was a long journey, about 17 miles! The trail also passed by places like Seven Lakes and Jones Park.
