Beat Fehr: A Brave Racing Driver
Early Life and Racing Career
Beat Fehr was born in a town called Wallisellen in Switzerland. He loved car racing and started his career in 1963. He drove many different types of racing cars. Some of these included cars from famous brands like Alfa Romeo and Cooper. Later, he bought a Brabham racing car from another driver named Jürg Dubler.
A Heroic Act: The Caserta Race
Beat Fehr was racing in an Italian Formula Three event. This race was called the XVIII Coppa d'Oro Pasquale Amato. It took place in a city called Caserta. During this race, a terrible accident happened.
The Tragic Accident
Beat Fehr's car crashed into another car. Luckily, he was not hurt. But his car was left in a dangerous spot on the track. Another driver, Franco Foresti, then skidded on oil from the crash. He also crashed his car.
Seeing the danger, Beat Fehr quickly got out of his car. He bravely ran down the track to warn other drivers. He wanted to stop them from crashing into the wrecked cars. Sadly, while he was trying to help, he was involved in another collision. This accident also involved other drivers who crashed at the same spot.
Remembering His Bravery
Beat Fehr died because of his injuries. He passed away just three days before his 24th birthday. Other drivers were also seriously hurt in the same accident.
After his death, Beat Fehr was honored for his courage. He received a special award called a Letter of Congratulations. This award came from the International Fairplay Committee. It recognized his selfless actions and bravery during the race. He showed great sportsmanship by trying to protect others.
