Beatrice was the daughter of John of Burgundy and Agnes of Dampierre. Her father, John, was the son of Hugh IV, Duke of Burgundy. In 1272, Beatrice married Robert, Count of Clermont. Their oldest son, Louis I, later became the first Duke of Bourbon. He was sometimes called le Boiteux, which means 'the Lame'.

Beatrice's Children

Beatrice and Robert had several children who grew up to have important roles:

  • Louis I, also known as le Boiteux (1279–1342). He became the first Duke of Bourbon.
  • Blanche (1281–1304). She married Robert VII, Count of Auvergne. Blanche was the grandmother of Joan I, who became the Countess of Auvergne.
  • John (1283–1322). He was the Baron of Charolais. John married Jeanne d'Argies and they had children.
  • Mary (1285–1372). She became a Prioress, which is a leader in a convent, in Poissy, France.
  • Peter (1287 – after 1330). He was an Archdeacon in Paris, a type of church official.
  • Margaret (1289–1309). She married twice. First, she married Raymond Berengar of Andria. After he died, she married John I, Marquis of Namur.
