Her Early Life and Schooling
Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller was born in Mexico City. Her mother, Nora Beatriz Müller Bentjerodt, had family from both Germany and Chile.
She went to the Ibero-American University Puebla. In 1998, she earned her first college degree, a bachelor's degree in communications. Her main project for this degree was about how media is used in election laws.
Later, in 2002, she earned a master's degree from the same university. Her master's project focused on the art of memory in a famous historical book. She also earned a special doctorate degree in literary theory from another university, the Unidad Iztapalapa of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana.
Her Work and Career
After finishing her studies, Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller started working as a journalist. She was a reporter for the newspaper El Universal in the city of Puebla.
She later joined the government of Mexico City. This was when Andrés Manuel López Obrador was the Head of Government of Mexico City. They met during this time.
Today, Gutiérrez Müller is a professor and researcher. She works at a special institute at the Meritorious Autonomous University of Puebla. She has written several academic books about literature. She is also a talented singer.
Her Family Life
Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller married Andrés Manuel López Obrador on October 16, 2006. In April 2007, their son, Jesús Ernesto López Gutiérrez, was born. He is her first child and López Obrador's fourth.
Even though she is married to the former president, Gutiérrez Müller has chosen not to use the title of First Lady of Mexico. She believes this role does not have clear duties or responsibilities.
