Beckett, Ohio facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Beckett is a small, quiet place in Washington County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or a village with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Washington County, and the county government helps manage things like roads and services for Beckett.

A Glimpse into Beckett's Past

Beckett has a simple but interesting history. Back in 1888, a post office was opened there. A post office was a very important place for communities in the past, as it was where people sent and received letters, packages, and news. It was first called "Becketts."

A few years later, in 1893, the name of the post office was made shorter to just "Beckett." This post office served the community for many years, helping people connect with the outside world. However, as times changed and transportation improved, many small post offices closed down. The Beckett post office closed its doors in 1936. Sometimes, people also called the area "Beckett's Station."
