History of the Museum
How the Museum Started
The museum began in October 1973. It was first called the Staggerwing Museum Foundation. A group of people who loved aviation started it. These founders included Carolyn and Richard Perry, Louise Thaden, W. C. Yarbrough, John Parrish, Sr., Jim Gorman, and Glenn McNabb.
Opening and Growth
The museum first opened its doors to visitors in June 1975. It was built on land that John Parrish's wife, Charlotte, kindly donated. Over the years, the museum grew. In 1995, a new building called the Beech Center was opened. This building serves as the main entrance and lobby for visitors.
New Name and Expansions
In 2007, the museum changed its name to the Beechcraft Heritage Museum. This new name better reflected its focus on all Beechcraft planes. The museum also added more space for its growing collection. For example, in 1998, they started building the Cianchette Hangar. Later, in October 2017, they made a big expansion to another hangar, adding about 36,000 square feet of space. This larger hangar was renamed the Bost Hangar.
Amazing Aircraft Collection
The museum has a fantastic collection of airplanes. These planes show the history and different types of aircraft made by Beechcraft. You can see many unique models, from older designs to more modern ones.
