What Does Beechwood Look Like?

Beechwood is a 2-1/2 story house made of wood. It has a unique roof with many different sections. The roof is covered with colorful slate tiles. You can see decorative brackets under the roof edges. There's also fancy wooden trim on the front.

Cool Architectural Details

The house has a porch on the left side of the front. This porch has square posts and a low railing. It also features pretty arches. Some windows on the house are separated by decorative wooden panels. These details show off the special Stick style of architecture.

The History of Beechwood House

This historic house was built in 1868. It was a wedding gift from Jedidah Marcy to his granddaughter. This makes Beechwood one of the first houses in Southbridge built in the early Victorian style.

Early Neighborhood Development

Beechwood was also one of the first homes in its part of Southbridge. This area didn't fully grow until the 1890s. The porch on the house has some details that look like an older style called Italianate. The Marcy family were some of the first people to settle in Southbridge. The house was built right across from their family's original home.
