Belén Ruiz de Gopegui Durán (born in 1963, in Madrid) is a Spanish writer. She writes novels and also creates stories for movies, which are called screenplays.

Belén Gopegui is a well-known Spanish writer. Many people think her books are very important. She studied Law at the Autonomous University of Madrid. She also earned a special degree in Humanities.
She started her writing career by interviewing people and reviewing books. Her work often appears in independent online places like Rebelion.org.
Belén Gopegui's mother, Margarita Durán Suárez, helped start Amnesty International in Spain. Her father, Luis Ruiz de Gopegui, was a scientist who studied space. He was one of the few Spanish experts in astrophysics at that time.
Her Books and Movies
Belén Gopegui published her first novel, La escala de los mapas, in 1993. This book won two awards for new writers. These were the Premio Tigre Juan and the Premio Iberoamericano Santiago del Nuevo Extremo.
Two years later, her book La conquista del aire was made into a movie. The movie was called Las razones de mis amigos. Belén Gopegui helped write the movie's story. She also wrote screenplays for other movies like La suerte dormida and El principio de Arquímedes.
Her novel Lo real was nominated for three big awards. These included the Premio de la Crítica in 2001. In 2010, her book Deseo de ser punk won the Dulce Chacón prize.
Between 2011 and 2017, she wrote three more novels. These books looked at how the internet connects people. They also explored how people can act and make choices in a connected world. These novels were Acceso no autorizado, El comité de la noche, and Quédate este día y esta noche conmigo.
In March 2019, she gave a talk called Ella pisó la luna. Ellas pisaron la luna. This talk honored women whose great achievements are not yet widely known. Her latest novel, Existiríamos el mar, was published in 2021.
