Did you know there are two different versions of Wikipedia written in the Belarusian language? Wikipedia is a huge online encyclopedia where anyone can help write articles. For Belarusian, there's one version that uses the official way of writing the language, called Narkomovka. This is the spelling style used in modern Belarus. You can find it by looking for "be:" before the article name. The other version uses an older, classical way of writing, called Taraškievica. This style was used before a big change in spelling rules in 1933. You'll see "be-x-old:" before articles written in this style.
History
The very first Belarusian Wikipedia started on August 12, 2004. One of the people who helped create it and was among its first leaders was Uladzimir Katkouski. His username was rydel. Sadly, Katkouski passed away in 2007, but he had already written more than 1,300 articles for the Belarusian Wikipedia all by himself!
